You can’t turn on the television anymore and not hear about the strife going on in America. It seems we live in dismal times. Or do we?
School shootings, the impeachment hearings, the whistle-blower, the low unemployment rate, exploding 401k’s, the volatility of the stock market, Fake News, violence, corruptions, discriminations and victimization from law enforcement,
I recently came across a fascinating article about Societal Consciousness. (huh?) I know I know (shrug). It may not be the best bloggable topic in the world but I think it requires some consideration for the causal reader. It’s nice to be Smartenized™. So what is this exactly?
“Societal Consciousness are the levels, a society or any structured system of human organisation operates from, that depends on the ability of the leaders and the government to create an economic and social climate, that meets the needs of its citizens.”
Problem with diagrams — we don’t always have a clear understanding how to read them. Luckily, I have done the rudimentary homework.
Think of the bottom (3) levels as the foundational building blocks for establishing internal stability in a community or a nation, and creating a foundation for a democratic society. So when leaders of a nation are unable to fulfil these levels (economic security, safety and protection), the nation as a whole will inherently be unstable.
Today, we will concentrate on the most important block: Survival
- Survival: Level 1 (Economic Security)
- Building a vibrant economy that provides jobs for the masses
- enables prosperity
- protection of territorial borders and boundaries
- Focus on
- food security
- health, safety and welfare of all citizens
- Focus on the reduction of
- environmental degradation
— Building a vibrant economy
— Enables prosperity
Pros: Stock market and economy has seen a great growth
Cons: Since 1971, we have seen a 9% decline in our Middle Class. The top 1% controls a record-high 38.6% of the country’s wealth in 2016.
— Protection of territorial borders and boundaries
— Health, safety and welfare of all citizens
Pros: responsive military, society’s economic safety; deterrent to criminalizing activity
Cons: Ethnic discrimination and reconciliation, poor international harmonious relations; abhorrible conditions for those seeking asylum/better life, racial inequalities
Approximately 990 million documented people cross the Mexico-U.S. border annually. It is the tenth-longest border between two countries in the world. The total length of the continental border is 3,145 kilometers (1,954 mi)
Much has been reported on the current U.S. immigration policies and “strong arm” tactics regarding the United States “war” on illegals seeking a better life for themselves. Certainly, everyone wants to safeguard from criminal activities but the majority of those seeking a better life, are not criminals.
Have we forgotten how America was created? Did we all forget why the Pilgrims came here in the first place? This country was built off the backs of those that were the most oppressed.
America was cast into greatness because of our Melting Pot mentality. The strength of our economy was spurned by those who saw the diversifications of our American culture, as a stepping stone to support Entrepreneurship and prosperity.
Unfortunately, the kiln of this Melting Pot is slowly being extinguished; as we promote a false tribal cry of nationalism. We must change this mindset as we continue up the ladder of societal consciousness.
American’s say they are the best in the world. Maybe at one time, we could make that claim. Unfortunately, we have foundational flaws. Until they are addressed, the United States will continue to fail to be taken seriously by the rest of the world, as the conscious leader of society and humankind.
